A message from our VP Jack Odell on Giving Tuesday.

Today is Giving Tuesday and I would like to tell a short story of why this day is important to me:
I was newly retired, and I was enjoying the fun of designing and fabricating new products…with the assistance of my brother, Scott. It was June 2013 when we launched our new product, a line of colorful resort bags. The launch was successful, and sales were great. One month later I was diagnosed with ocular melanoma (cancer of the eye). My brother took the fabrication and distribution of the JackOdellDesign Bags to Ohio to allow John and I the ability to concentrate on my cancer treatment(s). Testing proved I had an aggressive form of this disease. We contracted with the best doctors and my team was, and is, still amazing. That’s the thing. We had the time and contacts to connect us with the “best” doctors. Other patients don’t have that availability. I have been the Vice-President of “A Cure in Sight” for two years. Our mission is to provide funding and resources for ocular melanoma patients to obtain access to second opinions, treatments (gas cards, connections to airfares, hotel stays, etc.). Along with our mission to help newly diagnosed patients of OM we also run fundraisers across the country to keep on-going OM cancer research on track. This is important because there are numerous things that can stop a research project. I know this first hand. So, we try to keep this import research, for this rare/ orphan cancer, moving forward.

A donation today will help us continue to do our work. Please give, if you can, to A Cure In Sight. #GivingTuesday
